BATHROOMS my passion

What an amazing selection of differences in the bathrooms featured below.  As I have said before bathrooms are something I feel are so bad in so many houses and apartments that the time you spend in them is maybe productive but not at all kind to your senses.   Ablutions take on a very different feel when you are in a stunning bathroom with pleasant and interesting things to look at and a decent design and fittings.   Being calm in a bathroom is my idea of total letting go – nothing better than a hot bath or shower in a place where you feel as one with your space.    One trend now is tiling with all sorts of different feels and textures that mean you can create or have created for you a thrilling and entralling space.  We spend an amazing amount of time in our bathrooms and it would be so much more pleasant if we had beauty as well as great colour and comfort.

I have a bathroom in my townhouse that is functional but so old fashioned 1970′s but at least it is large enough to swing a cat around…you don’t have to have enormous space as restrictions in planning and architectural limitations but you can still have a creative space with little touches of sparkle or colour to make it your own.    Even a large picture and a pot plant can make all the difference in the world.

Don’t settle for just a bathroom – make it an event – one that will last the test of time and with great design this is always achieveable.   Take the lovely clean lines of a pale tiled bathroom you can add bright touches or add a clinical feel with all white towels, fittings etc. or put in some silver or gold the sky’s the limit.

In my bathroom I change the look from time to time with different gilt mirrors and colourful accessories that I place on the bench and on the floor – I am lucky to have a space for a seat which I place vintage boxes on or use great shaped baskets with facecloths inside etc. so you can play around and then you are more likely to enjoy cleaning your teeth or showering within a room more to your own taste and not a yucky bathroom.    Easily achieved even with a coat of paint but my favourite of all is tiles many and varied I have a very eclectic taste when it comes to tiling.    Trouble with my bathroom it wouldn’t take the weight of the tiles without a beam or two added under the floor and this could be done, but I will wait for that special bathroom to come my way.  I know it is out there just have to win Lotto to obtain it………

From the photographs below I would take a floor from one, a sink from another, the copper bath etc. and mix them all about to make my own style and favourite bathroom….yes I am passionate about them, think it comes from living in hotels from the age of 8 through to 18 years and spending time in all sorts of different bathroom spaces – over time realising what I liked and what wasn’t functional and what I wanted………go for your dreams with your bathroom we spend quite a lot of our lives in them, why not make it a pleasant experience – even if it is the size of a shoebox.
